NOTICE FROM THE ELECTION JUDGE
Runoff Election for Business Manager/Financial Secretary/Delegate for Convention
To the Members of IBEW Local Union 508:
Following the Local Union officer election, no candidate for the office of Business Manager/Financial Secretary/Delegate for Convention received the majority of votes required for election. In accordance with the Local Union Bylaws, a runoff election was initiated between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes.
After absentee ballots for the runoff election had been mailed, one of the two runoff candidates, Jeffery Autry, submitted a written withdrawal from the election. Because the Local Union Bylaws specifically require that a runoff election be conducted between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes, the withdrawal of one of those candidates leaves only one remaining eligible candidate in the runoff.
Accordingly, after reviewing the applicable provisions of the Local Union Bylaws and relevant guidance under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, I have determined that the runoff election is concluded and that the remaining runoff candidate is elected to the office of Business Manager/Financial Secretary/Delegate for Convention. This determination is consistent with prior guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, which concluded that where a union bylaws requires a runoff between the two highest vote-getters, the withdrawal of one runoff candidate leaves the remaining candidate unopposed and eligible to be declared elected.
Therefore, the scheduled runoff election will not be conducted, and Courtney J. Williams is hereby declared elected as Business Manager/Financial Secretary/Delegate for Convention of IBEW Local Union 508.
